Getting to be in historic hotel in town that my grandparents and elder relatives were from They would have been teenager when property first opened and my visit was to retrace the memories of my childhood stays with them in their nearby home. Having a view of the bay bridge and stars while dining al fresco was lovely. I liked using the whirlpool and spa as well as the fitness facility on location to take Zumba. There was a very well scheduled group activity program at the club.

It was cold sitting outside but worth it to me for the ambience. (would have been a plus to have lap robes provided) I had booked a king bed bayview but got a room with 2 queens. While I had a bay view, it was from a recessed room on 2nd floor and I had rooftop view below me, as well as view of the adjacent wings windows. It wasn't bad, just not a grand as I had envisioned. You definitely hear people come and go from their rooms and their conversations when they return to their rooms. But bed was comfortable, I was tired and they eventually got settled in for the night, so I had a great night's sleep.

We should have been told at check in that the breakfast is continental for guests until 9.30am and that hot breakfast runs after that. We went down at 10.30am on Sunday and were told that there was an hour wait for a table even though we were guests of the hotel.

We loved the grandeur and history of the building, excellent views and facilites and an excellent room service menu - greatly appreciated by tired travellers with hungry teenage boys. We all felt that we were staying somewhere really special. Good value for money even with the resort (26$ for a 5 people is really nothing!). It must be said that the weather this side of the bay is much better than in San-Francisco and the Marin valley area. SF is a short ferry ride from Oakland which is a 15 minute drive from the Claremont.

The Paragon restaurant was very crowded and the food very basic. My daughter's children's menu was quite poor. Much better restaurants in Berkley.

We didn't take advantage of it, but the Claremont offers childcare, they also a day camp, I would recommend asking when the camp kids are at the pool. They seem to be gone by 2:30. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay--opting to explore the local neighborhoods for many of our meals. There were 3 adults and 2 kids in our family group and we really fell in love with Berkely and the Claremont. It's both kid and business friendly, but also a romantic setting for a couple. Other than the pool, you wouldn't know there was a camp going on. It's a charming place to stay.

Epic location, beautiful grounds, great guests and great pool area.

Needs a bigger bar at the pool area

location and views use of the resort club facilities

there was building work going on we were aware of this but not the extent occurring during our stay

    Very good

The pool is one of the BEST parts of the facility!! Grounds are beautiful. Location is awesome & the actual structure is stunning.

Room was quite small, bed not very comfortable & pillows were awful. The air conditioning needs a little help. I don't think the overnight stay is worth the money.... Next time we might just come for the pool :)

Very friendly staff. Renovations were underway, but staff went out of their way providing extras to make up for the inconvenience. Easy walk to Berkeley Greek theater for concert.

    Beautiful Landmark Hotel

a little warm in the Meritage restaurant, but the weather was unusually hot.

    The staff were kind

Airconditions didt work, there was renovation at the hotel, which wasnt mentioned during reservation, they charge extra for facilities which we didnt use, this should be included in the price which is already high for berkeley standards.

Gorgeous property, nice size room, plenty of room for my 2 teenage boys and myself. Pool area and tennis courts were lovely. Nice shops in the hotel and helpful sales people. Overall, excellent value.

    - Restaurants were price-y - Front desk staff (only one woman upon arrival) was rude and unhelpful because we arrived "too early". No hello or welcome, no offer to store our luggage, use the pool, etc while we waited for our room.

    Very good

area property surrounds pool, spa, resort atmosphere

noise made it difficult to sleep tub/shower awkward TV did not work

  • 6.2

Unfortunately they are doing major remodeling which i did not know about prior to arriving. My room was under the construction - they moved me to a different room, which was less noisy but still loud. They did compensate for the inconvenience on my bill which was nice. The nice restaurant Paragon was also closed. For the price, it was not worth the stay. But typically it is a good hotel to stay at.

Hotel like a well kept dowager. Tasteful and elegant, courteous staff but expensive bar.
